Therapeutic Support

Birtenshaw provides a specialist environment in each of our services, tailored to providing the most comprehensive care and support for young people with significant physical disability, complex health needs, severe learning disability or Autism Spectrum Conditions.

We have a ‘Total Communication’ approach to our work, comprehensively supported by our own team of specialist therapists who assess each young person, working in a multi-disciplinary approach with our education and care staff, as well as other professionals to complete a detailed individual profile, a communication passport, care plans, health plans, education plans, behaviour management plans and to prepare a tailored therapy programme for each individual which guides their progress through their time with us.

Our key areas of therapeutic support are:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Rebound Therapy
  • Sensory Integration Therapy

Therapeutic activities are in turn fully supported by in-house facilities which have been specifically designed and built to cater for the needs of the children and young people with special education needs and disability, which include a multi-sensory, interactive, hydrotherapy pool, light therapy room, sensory integration room, play safe room and a ball pool room.
