OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational TherapyMany children need help coping with daily living skills such as dressing, bathing, feeding and toileting.  The occupational therapist is able to advise and educate young perople and staff in the use of special equipment and /or techniques, which may allow them to achieve greater independence.  The occupational therapist can also liaise with local health service professionals and social services about the provision of adaptations and equipment which may be required by the young people at home.

Assessment and training is given in the use of manual and power-driven wheelchairs.  In conultation with the pysiotherapist, the occupational therapist can provide advice about seating and positioning to allow each child optimum function.  Special seating is regularly monitored and reviewed and adaptations arranged as necessary.
