BIRTENSHAW HALL SCHOOL
‘Birtenshaw Hall is a good school that helps pupils to reach their potential while enjoying what they do’
Ofsted December 2006

The spectrum of needs catered for includes severe and complex learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties and visual or multi-sensory impairment in conjunction with autistic spectrum disorder or physical disabilities, including young people who display challenging behaviours associated with their disability.
THE CURRICULUM AT BIRTENSHAW HALL
The curriculum is organised and planned to ensure all pupils and students receive a personalised programme of appropriate learning experiences, together with a range of challenging opportunities. The curriculum is based on the principles and priorities of inclusive learning and takes account of the early stages of learning, cognition and development, whilst aiming to prepare learners for the experiences and opportunities of adult life
The curriculum encompasses the statutory requirements of breadth and balance, and includes modified access to the National Curriculum, differentiated to meet individual learning needs.

In order to meet the diverse and complex needs of our learners we provide access to a range of augmentative communication systems, including objects of reference, visual timetables, sign and symbol systems. The development of an effective communication system underpins everything we do. The diverse and complex of the pupils and students are such that they require a minimum of 1:1 support to access the educational, social and recreational programmes available.
