Become a Trustee

We are about to embark on our next exciting development: the construction of a new £5.6 million Special School with other complimentary service centres on site. 

We are looking for new Trustees to compliment the diversity and existing skills on the Board who can help to strengthen our governance arrangements and provide the strategic guidance needed to achieve our objectives for the new site.


The Role of Trustee:

To support and challenge the Chief Executive to ensure that Birtenshaw remains a provider of choice in this rapidly changing market and help develop and deliver our vision for excellence

To act as an ambassador for the charity, forging effective strategic partnerships across a range of networks to benefit children with special needs


The Candidate: 

Some leadership and/or change management experience is desirable, preferably at board level, combined with an understanding of scrutiny and governance

Good communication and influencing skills to enable a strong overall contribution to the work of the Board

A commitment and empathy to the charity’s work in supporting children with special needs

Gift Aid

Gift Aid Tax efficient giving is probably not the most entertaining of subjects, but it can make a big difference for a charity such as Birtenshaw! It is really simple. If you are a British tax payer and you make a donation to Birtenshaw, we can claim an extra 28% from the tax man. This means for every pound you donate we get £1.28. A Gift in Your Will (Legacy)

Most people tend not to think about what happens after they are gone. However, for some it may be comforting to leave a lasting legacy in their memory for Birtenshaw to help create a brighter future for children with special needs. A Legacy can be a donation of money, gifts, personal possessions or assets left to Birtenshaw in your Will. Legacies can help us at Birtenshaw to plan for the long term future and you can play a major role in making sure our future is secure.
